1986 American Silver Eagle Bullion Coins

The 1986 American Silver Eagle Coin is by far the second release in the popular American Silver Eagle Bullion coin series. This coin is part of the series commemorating the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. This beautiful coin is also the first in a special series commemorating the silver standard. It is an important coin for anybody collecting the entire series of American Silver Eagles. Collecting the coins in this manner is also a great way to learn about the history of our nation's coinage.

Like many of the coins in the American Gold Eagle set, the 1986 American Silver Eagle features a proof-like finish. Proof like finishes is used on coins that are new in circulation. The obverse of this coin features an eagle standing on a battlefield with wings spread wide. To the left of the eagle's body is inscribed the inscriber's name, years, mintmark, and date.

The reverse of this coin features an eagle resting partially in its wings while holding its claws together. Below this is the name of the denomination, "silver" and the year, along with the logo of the coin's manufacturer, "silver dollar." The inscriber's name can be seen beneath the eagle's head. The metal of this bullion coin is stamped with "USD", which stands for United States dollars.

The obverse of these coins features an eagle that is closely related to the double eagle design. Unlike the double eagle, though, the obverse of the 1986 American Silver Eagle has a winged eagle. Unlike earlier issues, though, these coins do not feature the wings of previous issues. Instead, there is a wreath or other embellishment on the reverse of the coin, with text that includes the name of the issuer, weight, metal content, and date of issue.

The reverse of the coin also differs from earlier issues. Previously, the obverse had only the inscriber's name, but now, the reverse has "silver dollar" wording. Previously, only mules were issued with these coins, but the design team has allowed for mule release of this bullion coin as well. Other words are also permitted. These coins contain one or more precious metals, which include aluminum, gold, platinum, and sterling silver.

Purchasing a 1986 American Silver Eagle is a good way to invest in precious metals. These coins are often purchased for their rich history, beautiful artwork, and collectible status. However, these coins also make excellent gifts for individuals and companies who appreciate fine silver and American Eagle coins. A 1986 American silver eagle coin is a great gift for yourself or as a present for a loved one!
