2021 American Eagles
In 2021, the first American Silver Eagle (ASE) was issued as
part of the American Eagle bullion program. The first silver eagles were issued
on November 24, 1986, and they quickly became very popular among investors and
coin collectors alike.
This famous silver bullion coin has Adolph A. Weinman's
Walking Liberty design on its obverse, which was previously seen only on U.S.
half dollars from 1916 to 1947. It has now been pulled out of retirement to
appear on 2021
American Eagles. Mercanti's stylized heraldic eagle appears on the
coin's reverse.

American Eagles
Although ASE production was relatively conservative in the
first decade, the West Point Mint produced a limited number of proofs for the
10th anniversary gold eagle set in 1995, with conventional bullion grade
(formerly known as "uncirculated") and ASEs made annually, only
30,125 of the 1995-W silver eagles were minted as a complimentary extra with
the anniversary set. Collectors flocked to them in droves, and they remain a
sought-after regular-issue key date to this day.
While in the early twenty-first century, the reverse proof
and burnished finish of the ASE coins have been produced. The Philadelphia Mint
was initially tasked with striking bullion-quality coins, while early proofs
were provided by the San Francisco Mint. In the 1990s, the Philadelphia Mint
struck proofs for a while, but by 2000, the West Point Mint was handling the
overwhelming bulk of ASE production, thus the minting responsibilities have
changed over time.
