John Mercanti Coins
Purchase the 1986-2000-S American Silver Eagle Proof 70 DCAM with the John Mercanti CoinsvSigned Label. The PR 70 Deep Cameo with Mercanti's trademark coin population is small. (*Population figures may be found in the table that follows.)
The reverse of the coin was created by sculptor and artist
John Mercanti. For 37 years, he was the United States Mint's Chief Engraver. He
retired in 2010. Many coins and medals were created by the well-known and
celebrated engraver during his tenure as Chief Engraver. To name a few:
Congress Bicentennial Gold Coin (1989), Pennsylvania State Quarter (1999), Iowa
State Quarter (2004), and many more, he designed the reverse side of each of
these coins. The way coins are engraved now is all up to him; he was the first
to create coins using computer and art software.
It was in 1986 when the first American Silver Eagle coin was
struck that it became popular. The artwork on the coin's front and reverse show
Liberty Strolling and the heraldic eagle, respectively. Both are patriotic and
represent the freedom that the United States of America enjoys. The reverse
side of the coin was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and first appeared on
the Walking Liberty Half Dollar before appearing on the American Silver Eagle.
The reverse of the American Silver Eagle was designed by John
Mercanti Coins after he won a coin design competition. His design was
accepted by the US Treasury in 1986, after which the coins were struck and made
available for sale. Collectors value the coin because it's one of the most
beautiful in American history and because it's a good investment.
